Amy Griffin, a prominent venture capitalist and founder of G9 Ventures, is facing significant social and legal challenges that have unsettled her standing among New York’s social elite and Hollywood circles. According to sources familiar with the situation, Griffin’s recent conduct amid ongoing legal disputes has led some associates to distance themselves from her, though complex business ties have complicated efforts to sever relationships entirely.

Griffin, 49, has been involved in a legal battle since March stemming from a lawsuit filed by a former classmate. The plaintiff alleges that Griffin appropriated her account of childhood sexual abuse and presented it as her own in Griffin’s 2025 memoir, "The Tell." In the book, Griffin describes being raped by a teacher and recovering memories of the assault through MDMA-assisted therapy. Griffin has denied these allegations and filed a defamation countersuit in June.

The legal dispute has drawn public and media scrutiny, including commentary from television personality Billy Bush. On his podcast, Bush questioned the credibility of Griffin’s memoir and described an incident at a wedding on October 10 hosted by jewelry designer Jennifer Meyer. Bush claimed Griffin confronted him over his coverage of the scandal, urging other guests not to speak to him and addressing his girlfriend with accusations related to his reporting. Bush characterized Griffin’s behavior as disruptive and self-centered, criticizing her for overshadowing what he described as “another woman’s wedding.”

Despite the controversy, Griffin retains substantial influence through her investments and board positions. She holds stakes in high-profile companies such as Gwyneth Paltrow’s Goop, Reese Witherspoon’s Hello Sunshine media venture, Bumble, and Spanx, and continues to serve on the boards of the latter two.

Sources indicate that while some prominent figures have expressed outrage over Griffin’s recent actions, their financial interests in her ventures have made them reluctant to publicly distance themselves from the financier. At the same time, other industry leaders reportedly continue to support her.

Representatives for Griffin have not responded to requests for comment.
