Trainer Andrew Balding’s filly Blue Bolt is favored to compete in Saturday’s Filly & Mare Turf at the Breeders’ Cup, held this year at Keeneland. The four-year-old has shown remarkable progress this season, capturing four consecutive Group 1 victories and establishing herself as one of the leading milers in training. She will face a step up in distance to nine furlongs, a change Balding believes should suit her, given her strong finishing ability over a mile throughout the campaign.

Blue Bolt drew a challenging position in stall 12 for the race, but Balding remains optimistic, highlighting that the filly has adapted well to travel and maintained her fitness since arriving in the United States. He described the current campaign as potentially the best opportunity his stable has had for a Breeders’ Cup winner, emphasizing the filly’s consistency and ongoing development. The decision on whether Blue Bolt will continue racing next year is pending her owners’ input, but Balding praised her as a “true star” who has continually delivered strong performances.

In addition to Blue Bolt, Balding’s stable will also be represented by Moonrise in the Juvenile Sprint on the evening before the Filly & Mare Turf. Moonrise, winner of the Sirenia Stakes, aims to improve on a promising fourth-place finish in the Cheveley Park Stakes at Newmarket. Balding expressed confidence in Moonrise, noting the filly’s strong early pace in her previous race and suggesting that the Juvenile Sprint distance suits her running style. Both horses’ participation marks a significant presence for Balding on the international stage at this year’s Breeders’ Cup.
