Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor is facing the loss of his last remaining official honour after declining to relinquish it voluntarily. The younger brother of King Charles was stripped of his royal titles and honours last year due to his association with the convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein.

Despite this, he continues to hold the Freedom of the City of London, an honour bestowed upon him in 2021 by the City of London Corporation (CLC). The award was granted partly by virtue of his late father, Prince Philip, having been a freeman. However, Mountbatten-Windsor has not complied with requests from the CLC to surrender the honour.

In response, the City of London Corporation has begun drafting the necessary procedures to revoke the Freedom of the City, acknowledging that no straightforward, lawful mechanism currently exists to remove it. A spokesperson for the corporation stated that they recognize public interest in resolving the matter promptly and share that commitment.

The development marks a continuation of the efforts to officially distance the royal family from Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor following the controversies surrounding his relationship with Epstein. The revocation of the Freedom of the City of London would represent the final formal designation held by the Duke of York being withdrawn.
