Andy Burnham, the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, is set to appear on Channel 4’s Celebrity Gogglebox in a special episode airing tonight at 9:05 p.m. The program, which will also feature the mayor of Liverpool, Steve Rotheram, sees the two long-time political allies sharing a sofa to review the week’s television highlights.

The episode is part of a charity event supporting Stand Up To Cancer and includes other celebrity participants such as the pop group Sugababes and comedian Joe Lycett, known for his role on the series Traitors.

Filming took place at Downing Street, where Burnham and Rotheram were photographed enjoying snacks, including bowls of crisps. In a preview clip released by Channel 4, Burnham offers Rotheram a beer alongside various traditional British snacks, joking about the merits of “Skips, pork scratchings, Twiglets,” with Rotheram commenting on the prawn cocktail flavor of the crisps.

This marks the first time a sitting British Prime Minister has appeared on Celebrity Gogglebox. However, it is not without precedent for political figures to participate on the show. Jeremy Corbyn, former leader of the Labour Party, appeared in a 2017 charity edition alongside actress Jessica Hynes. Additionally, other political personalities such as Stanley Johnson, father of former prime minister Boris Johnson, and Alastair Campbell, former communications director for Tony Blair, have also taken part in Gogglebox episodes.

Burnham’s appearance aligns with his reputation for embracing a more modern and approachable style in office, underscored by his previous embrace of social media platforms such as TikTok. The episode aims to blend entertainment with charitable support, bringing political figures together with popular culture in a relaxed, informal setting.
