Former Rangers midfielder Andy Halliday has encouraged the club to capitalize on a potential transfer involving Nico Raskin and reinvest the funds to pursue Scotland international Lewis Ferguson. Halliday believes Ferguson, who currently plays in Italy, aligns well with the profile sought by new Rangers boss Derek McInnes.
Ferguson still has two years remaining on his contract in Italy, with an option for an additional year, while interest in Raskin is expected to generate offers during the upcoming summer transfer window. Halliday described Ferguson as a player who ticks many boxes for Rangers, citing his successful spell in Serie A, leadership qualities as former captain of Bologna, and his familiarity with Scottish football.
“Lewis Ferguson fits that mould,” Halliday said. “The only question is what is the value of a player that’s done so well in Serie A? But in terms of character, desire, knowing what it’s like to play in Scotland, and understanding what the club’s all about, he can also support the younger players—these are qualities I think Derek will be looking for.”
In addition to Ferguson, Halliday commented on midfielder Cammy Devlin, suggesting that while Devlin would make a solid acquisition, he may not immediately strengthen Rangers’ starting lineup.
Halliday made his remarks during the launch of the 2026/27 Scottish Premiership fixtures, speaking on behalf of SPFL sponsors William Hill. The club’s potential moves come as Rangers aim to bolster their squad under McInnes after a period of transition.
