Racing Louisville ended Angel City’s shutout streak with a 2-1 victory at BMO Stadium on Sunday night. Maja Lardner, a rookie for Racing Louisville, scored both goals for her team, marking her first career National Women’s Soccer League (NWSL) goals. Angel City’s Sveindis Jonsdottir scored late in the match to narrow the deficit but could not prevent the team’s first loss since recording three consecutive shutouts.

Lardner opened the scoring in the 24th minute, capitalizing on a loose ball following a long-range shot by Katie O’Kane that bounced around Angel City’s penalty area. She then added a second goal in the 55th minute with a header off a lofted pass from Kayla Fischer, extending Louisville’s lead to 2-0.

Angel City responded in the 80th minute when Jonsdottir converted a long ball from rookie defender Sophia Mattice, who recorded her first career assist. Jonsdottir’s goal tied her with teammate Maiara Niehues as the club’s top scorer with six goals on the season.

The defeat brought Angel City’s record to 7-7-1, ending their streak of three shutout victories over Chicago, San Diego, and Orlando with a combined score of 6-0. Racing Louisville improved to 3-10-3 with the win. Goalkeepers Angelina Anderson of Angel City and Jordyn Bloomer of Louisville each saw significant action, with Anderson conceding twice and Bloomer allowing one goal.

The match highlighted the emerging talent in Racing Louisville’s lineup, particularly Lardner, whose performance helped secure the team’s first road victory since early in the season. Angel City, meanwhile, will seek to bounce back after their first loss in six matches as the NWSL season progresses.
