Jared Jones delivered a strong pitching performance to lead the Pittsburgh Pirates to a 1-0 victory over the Los Angeles Angels on Friday night at PNC Park. The win marked Jones’ first in eight starts this season as he limited the Angels to three hits over six innings, striking out nine and issuing one walk.

Jake Mangum contributed the game’s only run with an RBI double in the second inning. The Angels started that inning with back-to-back singles but failed to capitalize as Jones escaped further damage by inducing a foul out and striking out the final two batters of the frame.

Wilber Dotel and Mason Montgomery followed Jones on the mound, combining for three hitless innings to preserve the shutout. Montgomery recorded the final three outs in the ninth, helping the Pirates secure their ninth shutout of the season.

On the other side, Ryan Johnson took the mound for the Angels and suffered a tough loss despite a solid outing. Johnson allowed only one run and four hits over six innings while striking out six and walking two. The Angels offense struggled to generate opportunities and were held scoreless for the 12th time this season.

The defeat deepened the Angels’ recent struggles, marking their 10th loss in 11 games and extending their position at the bottom of the league standings. Meanwhile, the Pirates improved their record behind a balanced effort of pitching and timely hitting that proved enough for the narrow victory.
