England international winger Anthony Gordon has expressed appreciation for fellow national teammate Marcus Rashford’s support following his recent transfer to Barcelona. Gordon completed a £70 million move to the Spanish club earlier this month, joining Rashford, who is reportedly keen to remain at Barcelona after his loan spell last season.
The two players, who already compete for starting positions within the England squad, may soon find themselves vying for roles at the club level as well. Despite this potential rivalry, Gordon described the relationship between the two as friendly and supportive.
“Marcus congratulated me as soon as he saw me,” Gordon said. “He has been really helpful. I am trying to look for a house and he has helped me with things about the club, which is helpful as I have not been there yet.”
Gordon acknowledged the challenges of adapting to a new environment while maintaining full commitment to his current responsibilities, stating, “It is hard for me because my full focus is here.”
Regarding their competition for playing time, Gordon regarded the rivalry as a natural aspect of elite football. “We’re in competition for a place. That’s football. At elite level, you’re always going to have that and that usually serves me well, so I’m fine with that and I’m sure he is.”
He also praised Rashford’s character, describing him as “a lovely person, misunderstood from the outside. Humble, quite kid-like. He loves playing football.” Gordon added that Rashford’s passion for the game is evident in his constant ball skills and described him as having come from a “nice family,” highlighting the positive impression Rashford has made on him.
The presence of both players at Barcelona underscores the club’s continued investment in English talent, while also intensifying competition within the squad as they prepare for the upcoming season.
