Anthony Taylor, the English referee known for officiating at major international tournaments, has been appointed as the director of elite refereeing for the Turkish Football Federation. The 47-year-old retired from on-field refereeing last month after a two-decade career during which he oversaw 668 professional domestic matches.

Taylor’s officiating experience includes assignments at Euro 2020 and the last two FIFA World Cups, marking him as one of England’s most prominent referees in recent years. His new position in Turkey involves overseeing the strategic and technical development of the nation’s refereeing standards.

The Turkish Football Federation aims to enhance its refereeing program by aligning with the guidelines set by UEFA and FIFA. Taylor is expected to play a central role in strengthening the training, performance, and overall quality of match officials across Turkey.

The appointment was confirmed by Trinity Chambers, the legal firm representing Taylor. They highlighted that his expertise will support the federation’s ambition to elevate its refereeing infrastructure to meet international standards. This move marks Taylor’s transition from active officiating to a leadership role focused on the advancement of football refereeing at a national level.
