Anthropic, a leading artificial intelligence company based in San Francisco, has filed documents for an initial public offering (IPO) that could become one of the largest in history. The filing, submitted Monday, positions the five-year-old startup for a potential Wall Street debut as early as next month and signals a major advancement in the competitive AI sector.

The company, co-founded by siblings Dario and Daniela Amodei, is aiming to raise substantial capital through the IPO, which could surpass the record $86 billion raised by SpaceX earlier this year. Reports suggest the offering might generate up to $100 billion, potentially setting a new benchmark for U.S. market debuts. Anthropic’s stock is expected to be listed on the Nasdaq Global Select Market under the ticker symbol “ANT.”

Founded in 2021 by former OpenAI executives, Anthropic is widely recognized for its AI chatbot Claude and is currently engaged in intense rivalry with OpenAI. The IPO comes after CEO Dario Amodei recently advocated for slowing the development of advanced AI models, citing potential existential risks posed by the technology.

Despite rapid revenue growth, Anthropic has yet to achieve profitability. The company reported a net loss of $80.7 billion for the first half of 2026, a significant increase from a $13 billion loss in the same period the previous year. Nevertheless, private investors valued Anthropic at $965 billion earlier this year, and projections indicate the market valuation could climb to between $1.5 trillion and $2 trillion following the IPO. At those levels, Anthropic would rank among the world’s most valuable public companies, comparable to Tesla.

The funds raised through the offering are expected to support Anthropic’s continued expansion, including potential acquisitions of other companies and investments in infrastructure. The proceeds would also alleviate any short-term cash flow challenges the company may face.

The IPO is poised to substantially increase the wealth of Anthropic’s founders, particularly Dario and Daniela Amodei, who collectively own nearly 500 million shares. According to recent estimates, both siblings possess net worths exceeding $15 billion, ranking them among the world's wealthiest individuals.

The market debut of Anthropic and the closely watched plans for OpenAI’s own IPO underscore a broader acceleration in the artificial intelligence industry, as these firms seek substantial capital to fuel development of next-generation AI technologies.
