Anthropic PBC, a leading artificial intelligence developer, has rapidly emerged as one of the most valuable tech startups in the world, approaching a private market valuation of $965 billion ahead of its anticipated initial public offering (IPO). The company, known for developing the Claude chatbot, is poised to deliver substantial returns for early and later investors alike as it prepares to enter the public markets.
Iconiq Capital, which made its initial investment in Anthropic in 2025, has committed over $6 billion to the firm. The investment firm currently holds a stake valued at roughly $17 billion, based on the latest private valuation. Sources familiar with Anthropic's financing predict that the company's market value could potentially reach $2 trillion at IPO, a milestone that would further multiply Iconiq’s returns.
The impending public listing is expected to generate multibillion-dollar gains for a variety of investors, including venture capital firms, technology companies, and independent backers who have supported Anthropic since its founding in 2021. The surge in Anthropic’s valuation over the past year has provided late-stage investors with significant windfalls alongside earlier participants.
Spark Capital, which holds the only known board seat among venture firms at Anthropic, invested $75 million in 2023, marking its largest single investment to date. That stake has now ballooned to an estimated value of $7 billion. Sound Ventures, a lesser-known investment firm founded by talent manager Guy Oseary and actor Ashton Kutcher, initially invested $35 million in the same funding round when Anthropic was valued at $5 billion. Subsequent investments have raised Sound Ventures’ total commitment to $400 million, contributing to a stake now worth several billion dollars. Oseary currently leads the firm alongside managing partner Effie Epstein; Kutcher resigned earlier this year.
Sequoia Capital, a prominent venture firm noted for its early investments in OpenAI, entered Anthropic only in early 2026. With a $3 billion investment, it holds about a 1 percent stake in the startup, positioning the firm for considerable returns if the company’s IPO meets expectations.
Singapore’s sovereign wealth fund, GIC, has also made a substantial investment in Anthropic, committing over $4.5 billion beginning last year and now owning roughly 1 percent of the company. Details of these investments remain confidential, with sources speaking anonymously given the sensitive nature of the information.
As Anthropic edges closer to its public listing, the company’s rapid valuation growth underscores the intense market interest in artificial intelligence innovation and the substantial value being created by leading players in the sector.
