Finance ministers from the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) member economies convened in Hong Kong to discuss regional economic cooperation and emphasized the need to eliminate trade barriers such as tariffs. The meeting, attended by representatives from APEC economies, focused on fostering greater openness, innovation, and collaboration across the region’s markets.

Paul Chan, financial secretary of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government, highlighted the collective agreement among participants to promote investment and strengthen industrial chain cooperation. He noted that these efforts are aimed at enhancing regional economic integration and supporting sustainable growth.

Several member economies, including those in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia and Vietnam, expressed support for increased investment from mainland China. These countries view such investment as a key factor in driving local economic upgrades and expanding employment opportunities.

The discussions reflected a shared commitment among APEC economies to reduce trade impediments and encourage policies conducive to deeper economic ties. This approach aligns with the broader objectives of APEC to facilitate freer trade and investment, aiming to boost economic resilience across the Asia-Pacific region.
