British police have renewed their appeal for information regarding the disappearance of Sarjit Kaur Mann, who went missing nearly 50 years ago while on holiday in France. Sarjit, originally from Birmingham, was last seen in September 1976 during a trip with her family to Antibes, a town in the south of France. The renewed appeal coincides with what would have been her 70th birthday.

At the time of her disappearance, Sarjit was 20 years old and a student at Birmingham University. After her family left France to return to the United Kingdom, Sarjit chose to remain behind, expressing a desire to spend time with acquaintances she had made and to visit local museums. She was never seen again.

West Midlands Police’s missing person unit has kept the case open and continues to seek new leads. PC Shaun Reeve, who is involved in the investigation, described the circumstances surrounding her disappearance as "a mystery," emphasizing that the department has maintained an open mind over the years. According to police, Sarjit had reportedly met a group of young women around her age during the holiday. One woman in particular, identified only as Jane, is believed to have contacted Sarjit's family shortly after they returned home. During the call, Jane allegedly claimed that Sarjit had drowned, but then abruptly ended the conversation. Law enforcement has been unable to verify the identity of the caller.
