Apple introduced its first foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, during a product launch event held Wednesday at Apple Park in Cupertino, California. The company also unveiled the new iPhone 18 Pro series, updated Apple Watch models, and AirPods.

The iPhone Duo features a 5.4-inch outer display that unfolds to reveal a 7.6-inch inner screen, marking the largest display ever offered on an iPhone. When closed, the device measures roughly the size of a passport, and when unfolded, it becomes Apple’s thinnest iPhone to date. Constructed from Grade 5 titanium, the phone incorporates a precision hinge mechanism. Both the inner and outer Super Retina XDR displays share the same aspect ratio, enabling users to switch seamlessly between screens while maintaining consistent content scaling.

Under the hood, the iPhone Duo is powered by Apple’s new A20 Pro chip, which is also used in the iPhone 18 Pro lineup. This chip, built on a 2-nanometer process, includes a six-core CPU, a seven-core GPU, and a dual 16-core Neural Engine designed to enhance on-device artificial intelligence capabilities.

The device utilizes a dual-battery configuration and includes a custom vapor chamber to manage heat dissipation. Battery life varies depending on screen usage: up to 31 hours of video playback on the inner display and 44 hours on the outer display, according to Apple.

Priced starting at $1,999 in the United States, the iPhone Duo represents Apple’s entry into the foldable smartphone market, a segment already populated by various competitors. The launch highlights Apple’s continued investment in innovative form factors and advanced processing technology.
