Apple unveiled a new smart home device on Tuesday as part of an effort to reinvigorate its product lineup and expand its presence in artificial intelligence. At an event held in New York, the company introduced the HomeView, a 7-inch tablet designed for household use. The device can recognize up to six different users and customize its displayed content accordingly.
The HomeView will be available in two configurations: one that can be placed on a countertop and another designed for wall mounting. Pricing for the device will start at $299, with availability beginning on November 13.
This announcement comes shortly after John Ternus assumed leadership of Apple, succeeding Tim Cook. Ternus, formerly the company’s head of hardware engineering, took charge amid ongoing scrutiny over Apple's recent product strategies. Critics have pointed to incremental updates of flagship products like the iPhone and a mixed reception to newer innovations such as the Vision Pro mixed reality headset.
With the recent launch of the iPhone Duo—a foldable smartphone capable of opening and closing like a book—and the introduction of the HomeView, Apple appears to be signaling a renewed commitment to innovation in both hardware and artificial intelligence integration.
