The Arab Parliament has condemned recent attacks targeting two Emirati oil tankers, “Mombasa” and “Al-Bahyah,” as well as a ballistic missile strike on southern Saudi Arabia by the Houthi militia. The incidents have drawn widespread regional condemnation amid growing concerns over security and stability in the Gulf.
Arab Parliament President Mohammed Al-Yamahi issued a statement denouncing the missile attacks on the tankers, which were struck while navigating the southern passage of the Strait of Hormuz in Omani territorial waters. The assault resulted in the death of one crew member and injuries to others. Al-Yamahi characterized the attack as a hostile action and a grave breach of international law and the principle of freedom of navigation. He emphasized that such acts endanger critical global maritime routes, disrupt commercial shipping, and threaten worldwide energy security. The Arab Parliament called on the international community, particularly the United Nations Security Council, to take responsibility by enforcing measures to deter such violations and prevent further threats to shipping in the strategic waterway.
In addition to condemning the attack on the tankers, Al-Yamahi strongly criticized the recent ballistic missile assault by the Houthi militia targeting southern Saudi Arabia. He affirmed the Parliament’s full support for Saudi Arabia’s efforts to protect its security and stability, labeling the strike as a flagrant violation of international law and humanitarian norms. The Arab Parliament president described the attack as a dangerous escalation that jeopardizes regional peace and security. He reiterated that continued hostile actions against states, civilians, and civilian infrastructure represent an ongoing threat to the region’s stability.
Al-Yamahi underscored that Saudi Arabia’s security is integral to the national security of the Arab world overall, warning that aggression against the Kingdom has wider implications across the region. He praised the Saudi armed forces for their effective response and interception capabilities in handling the missile threat. At the same time, he stressed that persistent aggression undermines international endeavors aimed at achieving regional security, stability, and political resolution to the Yemen conflict. The Arab Parliament urged the global community to act decisively to halt such violations and hold accountable those responsible for perpetuating violence.
Separately, Qatar’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs also condemned the targeting of the Emirati oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. Qatar described the attacks as a serious breach of maritime security and international law, highlighting the direct threat posed to global energy supplies. The ministry expressed concern that the incident represents a dangerous escalation that destabilizes the region and hampers efforts to promote peace and security.
The incidents further underscore the escalating tensions in the Gulf amid ongoing conflicts tied to the Yemen war and broader geopolitical rivalries. Regional actors continue to call for heightened international engagement to ensure the security of vital maritime routes and to seek durable political solutions to enduring conflicts.
