A federal judge in Argentina has dismissed a criminal case involving President Javier Milei and his sister, who were accused of promoting a cryptocurrency scheme that allegedly led to investor losses exceeding $100 million. On Friday, Judge Marcelo Martinez de Giorgi ruled that the actions under scrutiny did not constitute a criminal offense.

The case centered on the promotion of the $LIBRA meme coin, which Milei publicly endorsed in a February 2025 social media post, stating, “The world wants to invest in Argentina. $LIBRA.” Investors who participated in the scheme suffered significant financial setbacks, prompting an investigation into whether the promotion of the cryptocurrency involved fraudulent or criminal conduct.

Despite the substantial reported losses, the judge concluded that the evidence did not support criminal charges against the president or his sister. The ruling exempts them from further legal proceedings in connection to the cryptocurrency allegations.

The dismissal of the case comes amid growing scrutiny of digital currency activities in Argentina, where regulatory oversight continues to evolve in response to rising market enthusiasm and associated risks. President Milei’s public support for $LIBRA had drawn particular attention given his political prominence.

Authorities have yet to specify whether any civil actions or regulatory investigations will proceed separately from the criminal case. Meanwhile, Milei’s office has not issued detailed comments following the ruling. The decision marks a significant development in a high-profile dispute involving Argentina’s highest political office and the rapidly expanding cryptocurrency sector.
