Ariana Grande has withdrawn from the upcoming London West End production of the Stephen Sondheim musical "Sunday in the Park with George," producers confirmed on Sunday. The 33-year-old pop star was scheduled to make her West End debut in the summer of 2027 at the Barbican Theatre, starring alongside Jonathan Bailey.

Grande’s decision to step away from the show comes amid increased public scrutiny of her health and ongoing media attention. Her representative stated that following the conclusion of her "Eternal Sunshine" tour in London on September 1, the singer plans to take a break from public-facing activities. The representative described the break as “much-deserved” and said Grande wishes to "step back from visibility,” citing the intense and persistent public scrutiny tied to her frequent appearances.

Producers issued a statement on the show’s official X account affirming Grande’s withdrawal while offering their full support. “We know this cannot have been an easy decision,” it read, adding that the production will continue as scheduled with casting announcements expected at a later date. The statement also conveyed best wishes to Grande.

Recent concerns for Grande’s health among fans intensified following the release of the music video for her song “Petal” on Friday, where viewers noted a significant change in her appearance. Grande has previously addressed body-shaming remarks, warning that such comments are harmful.

Before rising to fame as a pop icon, Grande began her career as a teenager on Broadway. She garnered widespread acclaim for her portrayal of Glinda in the film adaptation of "Wicked," a role that earned her an Academy Award nomination for best supporting actress.
