Authorities arrested an armed man near Donald Trump’s golf course in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, just days before the former president was scheduled to visit the site for a Republican Party fundraising event. The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department reported that plainclothes officers observed the individual on Sunday engaging in suspicious behavior, including taking photographs and videos and appearing to monitor security arrangements.

Following the arrest, officers recovered ammunition and a 16-round magazine from the man. A subsequent search of his vehicle revealed a loaded pistol and an additional loaded magazine. Further searches of his residence uncovered multiple weapons, ammunition, body armor, radio signal devices, and several notebooks containing statements deemed concerning by authorities.

Trump was expected at the Trump National Golf Course on Tuesday evening to attend a fundraising dinner. Security surrounding the former president has been a focal point in recent months due to a series of incidents. In April, gunfire at a press dinner in Washington prompted security personnel to evacuate Trump and his wife, leading to the event’s abrupt cancellation. Earlier, in February, law enforcement officials shot and killed an armed individual at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. Additionally, in 2024, Trump was slightly injured when someone fired at a campaign event in Pennsylvania while he was seeking to return to the Oval Office.

These incidents have heightened concerns about the safety of the former president during his public appearances and have led to increased security measures at locations he frequents. The investigation into the recent arrest near the golf course is ongoing. Authorities have not released the identity of the detained individual or indicated whether any charges have been filed.
