Authorities in Newport have launched a murder investigation following the discovery of a woman’s body early Saturday morning. Firearms officers were dispatched to a residence in the area, where the incident took place. The woman, whose identity has not yet been formally confirmed, was declared dead by paramedics at a nearby location. Her family has been notified.

A 66-year-old man from Newport was arrested at the scene on suspicion of murder and is currently being held in police custody. Chief Superintendent John Davies stated that investigators are not seeking any additional suspects in connection with the case. He also noted that there will be a heightened police presence in the neighborhood as officers continue their inquiries.
