An Army sergeant who appeared on the television show *First Dates* has been charged with assaulting his partner, appearing in court this week to face allegations of actual bodily harm and criminal damage. Paul Chamberlain, 44, is accused of injuring Chloe Smith during an argument and damaging her phone in an incident that took place on a Saturday night in Bromley, South East London.

At Croydon magistrates' court, it was revealed that the two had been involved casually for approximately two months prior to the altercation. Chamberlain entered a not guilty plea to the charges. His defense lawyer, Samantha Gilmour, described him as “a very precious member of Army personnel” who has served with distinction for over 25 years.

District Judge Polly Gledhill granted Chamberlain bail with conditions preventing him from contacting Ms. Smith and restricting his movements within the M25 motorway area. He is scheduled to appear at Croydon Crown Court on October 19.

Outside the court, Chamberlain was seen changing his joggers but declined to comment when approached by reporters, stating only that he could not speak due to his military service.

Chamberlain gained public attention earlier this year after appearing on Channel 4’s *First Dates*, where he was featured as a serving soldier described by the show’s host as physically imposing. His appearance on the program included a date with singer Natalie Edwards, who is not connected to the current legal matter.

The case remains ongoing as it proceeds toward trial.
