Arne Slot is reportedly focusing on a return to European football, turning down offers from the Saudi Pro League despite interest from clubs such as Al Ahli. The Dutch coach, who previously led Liverpool to their 20th league title shortly after taking over from Jurgen Klopp in the summer of 2024, faced a challenging second season which culminated in his dismissal with a year remaining on his contract.
During his second campaign, Liverpool suffered 12 Premier League defeats and narrowly secured a Champions League qualification spot on the final matchday. Sporting director Richard Hughes made the decision to relieve Slot of his duties amid the club’s struggles. Since departing Liverpool, Slot has been linked to several coaching roles, including a possible return to the Premier League with Fulham.
More recently, reports linked Slot to Al Ahli of the Saudi Pro League, with the Jeddah-based club considering him as a leading candidate following Newcastle United’s pursuit of Matthias Jaissle, who is expected to succeed Eddie Howe at St James' Park. Despite this interest, Slot appears intent on continuing his managerial career within Europe.
AC Milan were also reportedly in the market for a new head coach and were linked to Slot, but ultimately appointed Ruben Amorim, the former Manchester United manager. Meanwhile, Slot’s former assistants Sipke Hulshoff and Giovanni van Bronckhorst have both returned to Feyenoord, where Slot had previously enjoyed success.
As he weighs his options, Slot’s primary objective remains a coaching position at a European club, aiming to build on his earlier achievements in the continent’s football scene.
