A 47-year-old woman was arrested in connection with an attempted kidnapping incident involving a 4-year-old boy in Brooklyn earlier this week, police said.

Chrissy Payne, a Flatlands resident, was taken into custody around 11:45 p.m. on Friday following the incident that occurred Monday outside a McDonald’s on Eastern Parkway near Utica Avenue in the Crown Heights neighborhood. Authorities said Payne allegedly grabbed J’Marke Roberts from his 66-year-old grandmother in a brazen attempt to abduct the child.

According to sources, after seizing the boy, Payne tried to cross the street with him before J’Marke’s mother, Anyia James Roberts—an off-duty police officer—intervened and successfully retrieved her son. Anyia Roberts, who is currently seven months pregnant, was praised by family members for her quick response during the attempted kidnapping.

Following the incident, J’Marke was reported to be shaken but returned to school by Thursday. Payne faces charges including attempted kidnapping and endangering the welfare of a child. The family has expressed relief that the situation was resolved without further harm.
