A police officer was shot in the foot with a sawn-off shotgun in Nottingham during the early hours of Sunday, prompting a series of arrests as authorities continue their investigation. The officer, who approached two individuals at a bus stop in the Radford area of the city centre, is reported to be in stable condition following the incident.

Nottinghamshire Police detained four people in connection with the shooting. A 27-year-old woman has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life. Two men, aged 24 and 30, along with another woman aged 25, were also arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender.

The firearm was found abandoned on Angel Row, one of Nottingham's busiest streets. Police initially established a cordon around the scene, which was later lifted, though officers remained in the area for further inquiries.

Assistant Chief Constable Claire Rukas stated that a dedicated team of detectives is working to determine the circumstances leading up to, during, and following the shooting. She expressed cautious optimism that the arrests would help reassure the public as the investigation continues.

Authorities have not released further details on the motive behind the shooting or the identities of those involved. The investigation remains ongoing as police seek to gather more information regarding the incident.
