Arsenal, fresh off securing their first Premier League title in more than two decades, are reportedly interested in signing Brazilian forward Vinicius Junior from Real Madrid. The 26-year-old winger, who has one year remaining on his contract at the Bernabeu, has attracted attention as Arsenal seek to strengthen their attacking options ahead of the new season.
Vinicius scored 22 goals for Real Madrid last season and contributed four goals for Brazil during the recent World Cup. Vinicius’s future at Real Madrid has become increasingly uncertain following the return of Jose Mourinho as head coach, who signed a three-year contract with the club. The relationship between the two has been scrutinized after an incident in February, when Vinicius accused Benfica player Gianluca Prestianni of racial abuse during a Champions League match. Mourinho, then Benfica’s manager, commented that “something happens, always” in games involving Vinicius. Prestianni was later banned for six matches after admitting to using homophobic language towards Vinicius.
In addition to Vinicius, Arsenal are reportedly interested in Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes. Newcastle manager Eddie Howe, speaking after a pre-season draw at Gateshead, emphasized the club’s desire to retain key players but acknowledged ongoing conversations with Guimaraes. Howe stated, “I don’t know what’s going to happen with Bruno’s future,” adding that transfer discussions were taking place beyond his direct involvement.
