Arsenal have completed the £34 million signing of Greek winger Christos Tzolis from Club Brugge but face challenges in their pursuit of Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes. The Premier League club has reportedly prepared an initial offer of £70 million for the Brazilian, though Newcastle appear unlikely to sell for that figure. According to sources, all current negotiations have been conducted through Guimaraes’s agent, frustrating Newcastle, who regard the public speculation as a disruptive “tactical process.” While Guimaraes has expressed a desire to engage with Arsenal, Newcastle maintain he is not available for transfer. Following the acquisition of Tzolis, Arsenal’s sporting director Andrea Berta is expected to present a stronger bid to advance talks.
Guimaraes is attracting interest from other Premier League teams, adding further complexity to any potential deal. This situation echoes Arsenal’s recent failure to secure Morgan Rogers, who opted to join Chelsea instead. Arsenal had anticipated a fee between £80 million and £100 million would secure Rogers’s signature, but Aston Villa’s leadership, including co-owner Nassef Sawiris, held firm on demanding a British record transfer fee. Although Rogers was amenable to a move, Arsenal’s offers did not meet Villa’s valuation, enabling Chelsea to swiftly enter negotiations following England’s semi-final loss in the World Cup. Paris Saint-Germain forward Bradley Barcola is drawing attention from both Arsenal and Liverpool, while Ferran Torres, following his World Cup success with Spain, is reportedly contemplating a departure from Barcelona.
