Arsenal Football Club has informed staff that up to 60 positions may be subject to redundancies as part of a financial restructuring plan. The announcement was made during a call on Tuesday led by CEO Richard Garlick.
The move comes several months after Arsenal secured their first league title in 22 years, and shortly after manager Mikel Arteta signed a lucrative new contract reportedly worth around £20 million annually. Despite this recent on-field success, the club faces ongoing financial challenges.
The review is being conducted by the Boston Consulting Group, a US-based firm engaged to improve operational efficiency. Arsenal emphasized that the restructure will not impact the men’s or women’s coaching and performance divisions, nor will it affect the club’s community and foundation activities or their security staff. However, other departments within the organization are being evaluated.
Financial concerns have been mounting for some time. Arsenal has reported losses in every recent fiscal year, including 2024-25, despite generating record revenues of £691 million during that period. The club is seeking to enhance financial sustainability amid tightening Premier League regulations related to club spending and governance.
Sources indicate that plans for a restructuring were under consideration even before Arsenal’s title win in May, reflecting a broader strategy aimed at increasing efficiency across the club’s business operations. The exact scope and timeline of the job reductions have not been disclosed, and Arsenal has not confirmed which specific areas outside the excluded departments might be affected.
