Mikel Arteta has committed to a long-term future with Arsenal, signing a contract extension that will keep him at the Premier League champions’ helm until 2030. The new deal, announced on Wednesday, extends Arteta’s tenure beyond his previous contract, which was set to expire at the end of the 2026-27 season. If he completes the terms, the Spaniard will have managed the club for more than a decade.
Arteta, who took charge in December 2019 following the departure of Unai Emery, is now the longest-serving manager in the Premier League after Pep Guardiola left Manchester City. Under his leadership, Arsenal secured their first Premier League title in 22 years last season, breaking a series of three consecutive runner-up finishes. Additionally, Arteta led the team to their first Champions League final in 20 years, although they were narrowly defeated on penalties by Paris Saint-Germain.
The club described the contract extension as a reflection of a mutual belief in the progress made and the potential for a "special period" in Arsenal’s history. The manager reportedly received a significant salary increase in recognition of his achievements. Arteta expressed pride in continuing his work with the club and highlighted the strong connection he has developed with the team and its supporters. “We have already built a special bond and created memories that will last a lifetime,” he said, adding that the new deal marks only "the beginning of what we can achieve together."
During Arteta’s tenure, he has overseen 361 matches across all competitions, boasting a win rate of just over 62 percent — the highest for any full-time manager in Arsenal’s history. Despite some early criticism and pressure during his initial period at the Emirates, he has been credited with restoring Arsenal’s standing among English football’s elite.
Currently, Arsenal sit second in the Premier League standings, three points behind leaders Manchester City, following a 3-0 defeat to Brighton prior to the international break. Ahead of their upcoming match against Leeds at home, club co-chairs Stan and Josh Kroenke emphasized their pride in the club’s recent accomplishments and expressed confidence in continuing the success under Arteta’s guidance. “Last season was an incredible moment in Arsenal’s history,” they said, “and we’re determined to create many more in the years ahead.”
