Marc Brown, the Emmy Award-winning creator of the children’s television series "Arthur," has sold his Martha’s Vineyard estate for $6.4 million earlier this month. The property, located in Vineyard Haven, encompasses nearly eight acres and features several distinctive amenities, including a renovated farmhouse, a saltwater pool, an art studio, and a carriage house with space for three vehicles.

The main residence, originally built in 1730, includes five bedrooms and four bathrooms. It retains numerous original architectural details such as hand-painted Siberian elm floors, gunstock posts, a Dutch door, and four fireplaces. Additional accommodations are available in the pool house on the grounds.

Brown and his wife, Laurene Krasny Brown, undertook an extensive restoration of the property over 37 years. Their efforts preserved many historic elements while updating the home for modern use. The estate was initially listed for sale last year at $6.9 million before ultimately closing at the reduced price.

The Browns indicated that they wished to pursue a new project closer to their primary residence in New York City after dedicating significant time and resources to restoring the Vineyard property. The listing agents, Alexis Holden and Elle Lash of Tea Lane Associates/Forbes Global Properties, described the home as a sanctuary where the couple’s creativity thrived, likening the experience of visiting the estate to walking through an enchanted garden.

Lash emphasized the meticulous balance between restoration and renovation that defined the project, calling it a “labor of love” and expressing personal appreciation for the time spent on the property. This sale marks the end of nearly four decades of ownership by Brown and his wife at the historic Vineyard Haven location.
