Arthur Fery, the British tennis player who reached the Wimbledon semi-finals earlier this year, has been named as an alternate for Team Europe at the 2026 Laver Cup. The tournament is scheduled to take place this weekend at the O2 Arena in London. At 24 years old, Fery has seen a rapid rise in the ATP rankings, moving from No. 189 at the start of 2024 to a career-high of No. 36.

Fery’s selection as the team's alternate places him alongside six other European players, including high-profile competitors such as Alexander Zverev and Carlos Alcaraz. The squad is captained by former French tennis star Yannick Noah. As an alternate, Fery will step onto the court if any member of the six-man team is unable to play.

Reflecting on his journey, Fery recalled attending the Laver Cup four years ago, where he witnessed Roger Federer’s emotional farewell from professional tennis. Federer is also expected to be present at this year’s event, offering Fery the chance to share the same venue and atmosphere that once inspired him. Fery expressed enthusiasm about the opportunity to train alongside top players and gain insights from seasoned professionals.

“It’s going to be great to be around those guys, hopefully practise and get some ideas off them,” Fery said. “I’m wishing the best for my team-mates. But I would love to get out there and play some competitive matches.”

The Laver Cup, an annual team competition between Europe and the rest of the world, has grown in prominence since its inception, drawing leading tennis figures and generating high levels of fan interest.
