Construction is underway on the Oakland Athletics’ new ballpark on the Las Vegas Strip, with the team aiming to complete the project by summer 2027, well ahead of their planned move in 2028. The $2 billion facility is designed to be unlike any other Major League Baseball stadium, featuring a fully enclosed dome without a retractable roof and climate-controlled conditions to provide a comfortable experience for players and fans alike.
Located on a nine-acre site adjacent to Bally’s resort and casino, the ballpark will cover approximately 350,000 square feet and accommodate up to 30,000 spectators, making it the smallest stadium in the majors by capacity. Its design includes a glass curtain wall that will offer panoramic views of the Las Vegas Strip as well as the nearby Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area.
The stadium will incorporate advanced amenities, including air conditioning beneath every seat to mitigate the region’s desert heat. Luxury options include 44 suites, among them two premium boxes located steps from the dugouts, providing an intimate setting where spectators can observe game strategy discussions up close.
The new ballpark is intended to serve as the centerpiece of a surrounding entertainment district, positioning the Athletics as a prime destination for marquee free agents and enhancing their appeal within the competitive landscape of professional baseball. According to A’s president Marc Badain, the organization expects little difficulty in recruiting top talent thanks to the allure of the venue and its location.
Historically, the Athletics have a storied legacy, having won four World Series titles and six American League pennants between 1972 and 1990. However, recent years have seen declining performance and a lack of postseason success. The move to Las Vegas, coupled with the state-of-the-art ballpark, represents an effort to revive the franchise’s competitiveness and fan engagement.
As construction progresses with around 600 workers on site managing heavy beams and structural components, anticipation builds among players and supporters. The Athletics aim to deliver a modern, intimate, and fan-friendly environment that blends sports with entertainment, setting a new standard for baseball venues in the desert climate.
