Henry Dwyer is considering retiring the Australian mare Asfoora following a challenging summer campaign in the United Kingdom. The multiple Group One-winning sprinter has made four starts this season on British soil but has yet to mount a serious challenge in any of those races.

Most recently, Asfoora competed at Sandown on Saturday, where she was unable to secure a good start and remained at the back of the field throughout the contest. This disappointing performance has fueled speculation about the prospect of her retirement.

Dwyer, however, emphasized that no definitive decision has been reached. The mare is scheduled to enter quarantine on July 31 in preparation for her return home, which restricts her ability to race before that date. Notably, the King George Qatar Stakes takes place on the same day, serving as a potential final race for Asfoora during her current UK campaign.

“We’ve not made a decision, we’re just going to give ourselves the next couple of weeks,” Dwyer said. He indicated that the team plans to provide the mare with a week’s rest in the paddock before finalizing any plans, allowing more time for assessment.

Asfoora’s future remains uncertain, but her connections are striving to balance her well-being with the possibility of one last run at Goodwood before retirement.
