A’Sharqiyah University marked its annual day for the 2025/2026 academic year on Thursday in Ibra, Oman, with a ceremony overseen by Dr. Abdullah bin Nasser al Harrasi, Minister of Information. The event highlighted the university’s recent research achievements and ongoing strategic developments.
In his address, Dr. Yahya bin Mansour al Wahaibi, Vice-Chancellor of A’Sharqiyah University, emphasized the institution’s continued steady progress and its role as a significant contributor to higher education within the Sultanate. He outlined the university’s ongoing implementation of its 2026-2030 five-year strategy, noting significant advancements in various performance metrics.
According to Dr. al Wahaibi, the university currently enrolls over 12,000 students across 53 academic programs spanning diploma, bachelor’s, master’s, and doctorate degrees. He further underscored the university’s strong research profile, citing that more than 5 percent of its faculty members are recognized among the top 2 percent of scientists worldwide, according to listings by Stanford University and Elsevier.
The university has seen substantial growth in scientific research funding, with internal support increasing by more than 70 percent annually and external funding rising by approximately 45 percent. A significant portion of the external funding has come from national bodies, particularly the Research and Innovation Authority.
Dr. al Wahaibi highlighted various research support initiatives available to faculty, including the efficiency-based institutional funding program, strategic research projects scheme, collaboration opportunities with Sultan Qaboos Scientific Chairs, scientific publishing support, and training programs focused on research and innovation.
The celebration concluded with the recognition of distinguished students, faculty members, and strategic partners for their contributions during the academic year. Dr. Abdullah bin Nasser al Harrasi also toured the university campus, receiving detailed briefings on the academic and research services provided to the university community.
