The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has completed a comprehensive refurbishment project at Al Asiri Souq and Faleh Souq, located in Central Doha. The initiative forms part of broader efforts to revitalize the historic core of the Qatari capital by enhancing commercial and tourism infrastructure while preserving the markets’ traditional architectural features.

Announced by Ashghal, the project aimed to reinforce the visual and urban identity of the area, solidifying its role as a lively economic and cultural hub. The development involved multiple restoration and modernization activities designed to improve both the functionality and aesthetic appeal of the markets.

Key elements of the refurbishment included the maintenance and restoration of the existing architectural components, modernization of shopfronts, and upgrading of external finishes. Standardization and organization of commercial signage were also part of the project to create a more cohesive and visually appealing commercial environment. In addition, the lighting systems were enhanced to improve illumination and ambience throughout the markets.

The scope of work extended to cleaning and polishing flooring and marble surfaces, restoring shared public spaces within the souqs, and addressing various structural and decorative elements. These improvements aim to elevate the experience for visitors and shoppers alike by providing a cleaner, more accessible, and visually attractive environment.

Ashghal’s initiative reflects Qatar’s broader strategy to develop its urban centers while respecting their cultural heritage, balancing modern functional needs with the preservation of authentic architectural identity. The completed works at Al Asiri and Faleh Souqs underscore the government’s commitment to fostering vibrant commercial districts that blend tradition with contemporary appeal.
