The Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has completed the seventh phase of its Western Areas Road Improvement Project, advancing efforts to upgrade transport infrastructure across several key districts. The project encompasses a range of developments, including road construction, traffic safety enhancements, and infrastructure improvements designed to support growing urban and public needs.

This phase involved upgrading approximately 39 kilometers of roads across Al Sailiya, Al Gharrafa, Al Karaana, Al Nasraniya, and Meseimeer, according to Hassan al-Naama, project engineer with Ashghal’s Roads Projects Department. The upgrade included the installation of around 285 street lighting poles to improve nighttime visibility and safety.

Significant improvements were made to Al Sailiya Road and its adjoining main roads, where new street lighting, traffic signals, sewage lines, stormwater drainage systems, pedestrian walkways, and parking facilities were constructed. In Al Gharrafa, Al Karaana, and Al Nasraniya, the focus was on road upgrades and new construction, alongside enhanced traffic safety features, extended sewage and household connection networks, and additional stormwater drainage infrastructure, particularly in Al Gharrafa.

A notable aspect of the project was the construction of a new road exceeding 15 kilometers, designed to improve access to Al Kharaij Beach. Meanwhile, in Meseimeer, road network enhancements and landscaping efforts were carried out to facilitate access to government institutions and public service centers.

Beyond roadworks, the project included extensive infrastructure developments such as the installation of surface and groundwater drainage systems, stormwater networks, and sewage infrastructure. Land grading and site preparation activities were also undertaken at various locations to support the overall improvements.

Additionally, 587 parking spaces were constructed to address local demand. New pedestrian pathways as well as upgraded road signage and markings were installed to enhance safety and accessibility for road users.

The completion of this phase reflects Ashghal’s ongoing commitment to improving Qatar’s transport connectivity and supporting sustainable urban development in the western regions.
