Qatar’s Public Works Authority (Ashghal) has launched a comprehensive development project to upgrade the facilities, infrastructure, systems, and supporting services at Hamad General Hospital (HGH). The initiative aims to enhance the hospital’s operational readiness and safety, ensuring the delivery of a broad range of medical services aligned with the highest standards.

The project, a collaboration between Ashghal and Hamad Medical Corporation (HMC), is allocated a budget of approximately QR1.79 billion and is scheduled for completion by the third quarter of 2027.

Eng. Ahmed al-Emadi, acting head of Ashghal’s Health Projects Section, outlined that the development comprises three main phases, designed to maintain uninterrupted operation of the hospital’s critical departments and services throughout the works. These phases include constructing a new Day Surgery Building, modernizing the Outpatient Tower and the hospital’s Main Building, and renovating and rehabilitating the North and South Inpatient Towers. Additionally, significant upgrades will be made to various systems, supporting services, and infrastructure.

HMC’s head of Healthcare Facilities Development, Hamad al-Khalifa, described the project as part of the corporation’s ongoing commitment to modernize its healthcare facilities. He emphasized that the upgrade is intended to meet the evolving needs of patients and visitors while supporting the continued advancement of healthcare services in Qatar.

Project engineer Maryam al-Marzouqi highlighted that the work entails the complete replacement of the hospital’s mechanical and electrical systems, internal drainage, and other supporting services. These upgrades will adhere to the latest technical and engineering standards, ensuring enhanced efficiency and sustainability.

The development at HGH is positioned as a key component of Qatar’s broader national strategy to improve healthcare infrastructure and reinforce the capacity and safety of its leading medical institutions.
