The Public Works Authority (Ashghal), in partnership with the Qatar Scientific Club (QSC), concluded the fifth edition of the "Future Engineer" programme, which ran from July 4 to 23, 2026. The initiative engaged 40 male and female secondary school students, aiming to cultivate young talent, encourage interest in engineering, and equip participants with the skills necessary to address evolving national and global challenges.
The programme’s structure encompassed two main phases. In the first week, students visited various departments within Ashghal, gaining insights into engineering practices through guided tours, presentations, and interactive workshops. This exposure offered a practical understanding of the Authority’s work environment and the significant infrastructure projects it oversees across different sectors.
During the second week, participants moved to the Qatar Scientific Club, where they took part in intensive technical workshops and hands-on training. Working collaboratively, the students developed engineering solutions to real-world problems, applying acquired knowledge to create prototype projects under the supervision of experienced specialists.
Ashghal’s head of External Relations Section, Fatima Al Kubaisi, highlighted the programme’s role in fulfilling the Authority’s social responsibility by investing in youth through a combination of theoretical and practical learning. She noted that providing direct exposure to engineering environments allows students to broaden their perspectives, develop their skills, explore career interests, and make more informed decisions about their futures, ultimately contributing to Qatar’s national development.
Echoing this commitment, Ghanem Abdullah Al Kaabi, head of Training and Administrative Development at Ashghal, emphasized the importance of empowering young people with knowledge and experience from an early stage. He stated that the programme helps students understand diverse engineering disciplines and supports more informed academic and career choices aligned with labor market needs and Qatar’s development priorities.
Representatives from the Qatar Scientific Club also underlined the collaborative nature of the programme. Administrative and Financial Director Fatima Al Muhannadi described the initiative as a leading example of institutional cooperation aimed at nurturing passion for science and engineering among youth. Khawla Al Maadheed, head of Public Relations and Communications at QSC, praised the enthusiasm and curiosity of participants, calling the experience enriching and impactful for their future educational and professional paths.
The programme concluded with a closing ceremony where participants presented their engineering projects before a specialized judging panel. Winners were announced, and all participants were recognized for their efforts. The event reaffirmed the strong partnership between Ashghal and the Qatar Scientific Club in preparing a generation equipped with the knowledge, practical skills, and innovativeness needed to support the objectives of Qatar National Vision 2030.
