The Asian Tour has formed a partnership with the PGA Tour and the European-based DP World Tour, committing to a collaborative agreement that extends through at least 2029. The announcement, made on Tuesday in Paris, represents a significant realignment in professional golf and ends the Asian Tour’s association with LIV Golf.
The three organizations outlined their mutual goal of expanding competitive opportunities and strengthening career pathways for golfers in Asia. Under the terms of the deal, the DP World Tour will resume co-sanctioning certain tournaments with the Asian Tour beginning in 2027. Specific events involved will be disclosed later this year when the DP World Tour releases its schedule for the upcoming season.
This partnership revives the relationship between the European and Asian circuits, which had been linked from 2016 until 2021 and originally commenced in 1999 with the Malaysian Open. The event was the first to be jointly sanctioned by both tours, setting a precedent for cooperation on the professional golf circuit.
Cho Minn Thant, commissioner and CEO of the Asian Tour, emphasized the timing and strategic value of the partnership, stating that it would help extend the professional game’s reach across the region. “Bringing the three Tours together under one partnership will increase the bandwidth of the professional game in Asia,” he said.
Further highlighting the collaborative benefits, Ben Cowen, chief tournament and operations officer for the DP World Tour, described the agreement as a driver of “unprecedented international opportunities” for Asian Tour players through new developmental pathways. Christian Hardy, senior vice president of international affairs for the PGA Tour, underscored that the pact reflects a common vision among the tours and aims to foster a more interconnected global golf ecosystem.
The renewed alliance among these three key organizations signifies a strategic shift in professional golf’s structure in Asia amid broader changes affecting the sport worldwide.
