Aspetar Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital will host the "Aspetar Orthopaedic Masterclass: Live Surgery and Multidisciplinary Insights" on September 19, offering both in-person and online participation. The full-day, accredited event is designed to provide advanced surgical education and foster collaboration among orthopaedic surgeons, physicians, and healthcare professionals.
The masterclass will be held at the Aspetar Auditorium and is expected to draw over 140 participants from Qatar and internationally. It will feature a range of activities including live surgical demonstrations, expert lectures, case presentations, and interactive discussions. The program aims to enhance participants' skills in preoperative assessment, clinical decision-making, operative and postoperative care, as well as rehabilitation techniques.
Leading experts from Aspetar will contribute to the sessions, including Dr. Khalid al-Khelaifi, Dr. Emmanuel Papakostas, Dr. Gazi Huri, and Dr. Bruno Olory, supported by Aspetar’s orthopaedic fellows and rehabilitation specialists. The agenda will focus on managing common and complex sports-related injuries affecting the knee, shoulder, and ankle. Specific conditions such as meniscus tears, multi-ligament knee reconstruction, shoulder instability, and ankle instability will be addressed.
Emphasizing a multidisciplinary approach, the masterclass seeks to promote collaboration between surgeons, physiotherapists, and other healthcare providers to improve patient outcomes. Dr. al-Khelaifi, orthopaedic consultant and director of the Visiting Surgeon Programme at Aspetar, highlighted the significance of integrating live surgical broadcasts with interactive multidisciplinary discussions to offer participants insight into real-time clinical decision-making and the latest advances in sports orthopaedics.
The practical components of the masterclass will take place in the Aspetar Auditorium and will be live-streamed from the Aspetar Sports Surgery Training Centre, a facility equipped for cadaveric workshops, arthroscopic practice, surgical skills training, live surgery simulations, and anatomical education. This environment provides participants with the opportunity to refine technical skills and exchange expertise with peers.
