Aspetar, the Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Hospital, is set to host the Aspetar Orthopaedic Masterclass titled “Live Surgery and Multidisciplinary Insights” on September 19. The event will take place at the Aspetar Auditorium and will also be accessible online, providing a platform for both in-person and remote participants.
This full-day, accredited masterclass aims to bring together orthopaedic surgeons, physicians, and healthcare professionals for advanced surgical education and collaborative knowledge sharing. The programme will feature presentations and live surgical demonstrations by renowned experts from Aspetar, including Dr. Khalid al-Khelaifi, Dr. Emmanuel Papakostas, Dr. Gazi Huri, and Dr. Bruno Olory. Orthopaedic fellows and rehabilitation specialists from Aspetar will also contribute to the sessions.
The masterclass will cover a wide range of topics related to sports surgery, rehabilitation, and return-to-play strategies. Key areas of focus include preoperative assessment, clinical decision-making, operative and postoperative care, and comprehensive rehabilitation approaches. Specific conditions to be addressed encompass common and complex sports-related injuries of the knee, shoulder, and ankle, such as meniscus injuries, multi-ligament knee reconstruction, and shoulder and ankle instability.
Emphasizing a multidisciplinary approach, the event will foster collaboration among surgeons, physiotherapists, and other healthcare specialists to enhance patient outcomes. Dr. al-Khelaifi, Orthopaedic consultant and director of the Visiting Surgeon Programme at Aspetar, highlighted the masterclass’s objective to promote surgical excellence and share expertise globally. He noted that combining live surgeries with interactive discussions offers participants a valuable opportunity to observe real-time clinical decision-making and explore the latest advances in sports orthopaedics.
The organisers expect more than 140 healthcare and sports medicine professionals from Qatar and internationally to attend. The agenda includes expert case discussions, live Q&A sessions, and practical workshops conducted in the Aspetar Sports Surgery Training Centre. This facility supports hands-on learning through cadaveric workshops, surgical skills training, arthroscopic practice, live surgery simulations, and anatomical education.
