An assistant head teacher at a secondary school in Newport, Wales, has admitted to engaging in sexual activity in a public place during the summer holidays. Adam Doughton, 34, a history teacher at St Joseph’s Roman Catholic High School, pleaded guilty to a charge of outraging public decency at Newport Magistrates’ Court.
The court heard that Doughton performed sexual acts on another person in a public setting outside the school. Following his admission, he was sentenced to a 12-month conditional discharge and ordered to pay £111 in costs.
It is currently unclear whether Doughton remains employed at St Joseph’s, which has an enrollment of approximately 1,400 pupils. The school’s website continues to list Doughton as a member of its senior leadership team.
A representative from Newport council stated that the incident took place off school premises and did not involve any other members of the school community. No further disciplinary or employment details have been disclosed.
