The Houston Astros have appointed Randy Flores as their new general manager, replacing Dana Brown who was dismissed in August with his contract set to expire at the end of the season. Flores, 51, previously served as assistant general manager for amateur and professional player acquisition with the St. Louis Cardinals.
Flores, a former Major League Baseball pitcher, joined the Cardinals organization in 2015 as director of scouting and was promoted to assistant general manager in 2019, a position he held until his recent departure. He is the 15th general manager in Astros history.
A product of El Rancho High School and the University of Southern California, where he was a standout pitcher, Flores brings a decade of front office experience. Astros owner Jim Crane praised Flores, highlighting his significant contributions to the Cardinals over the past ten years and noting the organization's strong impression of his scouting and player acquisition expertise during the interview process.
In addition to the general manager vacancy, the Astros also face the task of hiring a new manager this offseason. Joe Espada’s contract was not renewed after the team, which won the American League West division, was swept by the Chicago White Sox in the wild-card series. The Astros are now beginning a new chapter, with Flores expected to play a central role in shaping the team’s future roster and leadership.
