Asyad Drydock completed 130 projects and expanded its international client base during the first eight months of 2026, company officials reported. The subsidiary of the Asyad Group finalized 119 vessel repair and maintenance jobs alongside 11 industrial projects during the period, according to Chief Executive Officer Ahmed bin Ali al Balushi.
The company attracted 56 new clients, increasing its total number to about 900, with approximately 40 percent of these new customers coming from markets in the Middle East and the Far East. Al Balushi noted that these results highlight the rising significance of Al Duqm as a maritime services hub, supported by ship repair facilities and strategic connections to ports and industrial operations within the Special Economic Zone at Duqm.
In a first for the company, Asyad Drydock managed 10 concurrent docking projects this year. The practice of docking two vessels side by side at the quay and maintaining both simultaneously has improved quay utilization and allowed the company to handle more projects in parallel. Additionally, the company set a new record by simultaneously conducting maintenance and repair work on 27 vessels, while the floating dock serviced 13 vessels by the end of August 2026, a significant increase from just two during the same period in 2025.
Beyond repair and maintenance, Asyad Drydock is engaged in two new shipbuilding projects for diverse applications, building on the completion and delivery of three prior projects to clients in local and Gulf markets in recent years. Al Balushi emphasized that this expansion is benefiting local businesses while boosting the company’s workload.
During the first eight months of 2026, Asyad Drydock awarded contracts and purchase orders worth RO 6.5 million to small and medium-sized enterprises and RO 12.5 million to other local companies. Local contracts accounted for 81 percent of the total value awarded, reinforcing domestic supply chains and creating opportunities for Omani firms in ship repair, maintenance, shipbuilding, and related sectors.
Al Balushi concluded that the ongoing development of these services is contributing to increased maritime business from international markets, bolstering the position of Al Duqm and Oman’s maritime industry more broadly.
