At least eight people have died in Russian attacks across Ukraine, including incidents near the Ukraine-Moldova border and in southern and southeastern regions, officials reported on Wednesday.

Overnight drone strikes targeted the Starokozache border crossing with Moldova in the Odesa region, killing two civilians and injuring three others, Governor Oleh Kiper said. The attack caused a fire and temporarily disrupted border crossing operations, which Ukraine’s customs agency confirmed had resumed by mid-afternoon.

In Kherson, a southern port city, two civilians were killed in separate drone attacks Wednesday morning. The victims were identified as a 73-year-old man and a 55-year-old woman. Further east, in Kushuhum, a town in the Zaporizhia region, Russian drone strikes resulted in the death of a 34-year-old man and left a 52-year-old woman injured.

Additional casualties were reported in Mykolaiv following an early-morning assault by Russian forces. One person was killed and five others wounded amid strikes that damaged residential buildings, commercial establishments, and warehouses. A large fire was reported at one affected site, Ukraine’s emergency services agency stated.

The Russian Defence Ministry confirmed that its forces targeted a Ukrainian cargo vessel carrying military equipment in the Black Sea en route to the port of Odesa, as well as a warehouse in the capital, Kiev. The ministry also reported shooting down 596 Ukrainian drones during the night.

Meanwhile, in Russia, Ukrainian attacks resulted in the deaths of four people, according to Russian authorities. The ongoing exchanges underscore the intensifying hostilities in the broader conflict between Russia and Ukraine.
