At least five people were killed and three others injured when a bus plunged approximately 15 meters into a ravine along the SP-52 highway in Cruzeiro, located in the southeastern Brazilian state of Sao Paulo. The accident took place on a mountainous section of the Paraiba Valley late Sunday.

Preliminary reports indicate the driver lost control of the vehicle, causing it to veer off the road before falling into the ravine. The bus was carrying 48 passengers at the time of the crash, according to information provided by the local fire department.

Emergency responders arrived at the scene to assist those trapped in the wreckage and provide aid to passengers in serious condition. Rescue operations and investigation into the cause of the driver’s loss of control are ongoing.
