A well-known athlete, identified in court as "Complainant M," testified about his experiences with Alan Jones, revealing periods of unwanted sexual advances and emotional discomfort during their interactions spanning several years. The testimony was delivered as part of a high-profile trial at the Downing Centre, now entering its seventh week.
According to Complainant M, his relationship with Jones began professionally when he was a teenager interviewed on Jones’s radio program. Over time, their interactions became increasingly personal and complex. M described feeling uneasy about Jones’s behavior, including frequent flattering remarks and intimate greetings such as hugs and kisses that crossed professional boundaries.
M recounted a specific incident at an awards dinner where Jones kissed him on the corner of the mouth without consent. He described feeling shocked and unable to react at the moment, stating that the kiss felt intrusive and unexpected in a public setting. Following the event, Jones sent M a series of text messages expressing affection, including one that read, “Great to see you. Sorry I didn’t catch up after, had to go back to work. You looked great, I love you, I hope you can feel my kisses darling.” M said he was uncertain how to respond and wished only for Jones to “go away.”
The athlete also testified about a later encounter at Jones’s harbourside apartment where Jones allegedly kissed him again and made repeated declarations of love. M stated he pushed Jones away when the kiss moved closer to his lips and noted that Jones’s genitalia came into contact with his leg during the encounter. Throughout the relationship, M visited Jones’s various residences and sought his support on at least one occasion following financial difficulties, as advised by his agent.
M presented numerous text exchanges spanning years in which Jones conveyed continual affectionate messages, such as “I love you I want to kiss you for hours” and “remember always I love you xxxxxx.” Despite the persistent nature of these messages, M said he tried to maintain a neutral tone in replies and was careful not to reject Jones outright, fearing potential damage to his reputation and career. He cited Jones's influential status in the media and his history of affecting public figures and brands as reasons for his caution.
M emphasized that he was never romantically involved with Jones and described his reluctance and fear throughout their interactions. Jones, a long-standing media personality and former breakfast radio host, faces 22 charges related to allegations from six men. The trial continues to unfold at the Downing Centre.
