Authorities in Barcelona reported an attempted burglary at the home of Spain international footballer Lamine Yamal on Wednesday, shortly after he played a key role in Spain’s World Cup semi-final victory.

The incident took place early in the morning in Esplugues de Llobregat, a suburb on the outskirts of Barcelona. A spokesperson for the Catalan regional police confirmed that two intruders wearing balaclavas attempted to scale a wall to gain entry but were confronted by private security personnel and subsequently fled the scene. The police declined to disclose the identity of the property owner due to privacy concerns, but local media identified the residence as belonging to the 19-year-old forward.

Yamal’s house is notably recognized in the area, having previously been the home of former Barcelona defender Gerard Pique and his former partner, Colombian singer Shakira, during their time together in the city.

The break-in attempt occurred on the same day Spain secured a 2-0 victory over France in their World Cup semi-final match held in Texas, advancing the team to the final. Yamal contributed significantly to the win by winning a penalty in the first half, which teammate Mikel Oyarzabal converted to give Spain the lead.

This incident adds to a recent pattern of security breaches targeting professional footballers in the region. Notable players including Karim Benzema, Rodrygo, and Dani Carvajal have been victims of residential break-ins in recent years, underscoring growing concerns about the safety of high-profile athletes at their private residences.

Authorities continue to investigate the attempted burglary. No arrests have been reported so far, and no further details about the motives or the suspects have been released.
