Canada will be represented by Félix Auger-Aliassime and Denis Shapovalov at the upcoming Davis Cup Final 8 men’s tennis tournament, set to take place from November 24 to 29 in Bologna, Italy. Auger-Aliassime, currently ranked world No. 7 and hailing from Montreal, alongside Shapovalov of Richmond Hill, Ontario, are expected to play leading roles for the Canadian team. Both players contributed significantly to Canada’s first Davis Cup championship in 2022.
The Canadian roster, announced Monday, also includes Montreal’s Gabriel Diallo, Liam Draxl from Newmarket, Ontario, and Duncan Chan of Markham, Ontario. The team secured its place in the final stage after defeating France 3-1 last month in Quebec City. During that tie, Shapovalov was not part of the lineup, but Auger-Aliassime delivered two singles victories, while Draxl notably upset Arthur Rinderknech, then world No. 32, in the opening match.
Ranked eighth overall, Canada will face fifth-ranked Czechia in the quarterfinals on November 24. The winner will progress to the semifinals to face either Italy or South Korea. This contest will mark the first Davis Cup encounter between Canada and Czechia, who have won the Davis Cup three times in their history.
The event in Bologna brings together the world’s top men’s tennis teams for a condensed and high-stakes tournament format. Canada’s blend of experienced players and emerging talents aims to build on its recent success and challenge for another title.
