Australia secured two silver medals at the World Rowing Championships held in Amsterdam, highlighting the nation’s strong prospects ahead of the upcoming Olympic Games.

In the women’s four event, the Australian crew comprised of Georgie Rowe, Jacqui Swick, Bronwyn Cox, and Giorgia Patten earned second place after a competitive final on the Bosbaan course. Their finish, just over two and a half seconds behind the United States, who took gold, secured the silver while narrowly holding off the Netherlands, which settled for bronze.

This performance came on the penultimate day of competition and marked another step forward for the Australian women’s sweep-oared four. All three medal-winning crews in the final surpassed the world best time for the event, which had stood for more than ten years and was previously set on the same venue.

Additionally, Australia’s Paralympic rowing contingent contributed to the country’s medal tally through Erik Horrie, a decorated Paralympian who claimed silver in the men’s PR1 single sculls final. Horrie finished second to Great Britain’s Benjamin Pritchard, the defending world and Paralympic champion.

The dual silver medals underscore Australia's ongoing competitiveness on the international rowing stage and provide momentum as the team prepares for the next Olympic Games.
