Thai authorities have arrested an Australian man in connection with the death of a 17-year-old Thai girl whose body was discovered in a suitcase in Pattaya. The suspect, identified as Simon Peter Carman, was taken into custody at Bangkok’s Suvarnabhumi Airport on Saturday while preparing to board a flight to Australia.
The incident occurred in Pattaya, located approximately 93 miles (149 kilometers) east of Bangkok. Thai police allege that Carman is responsible for multiple charges, including murder, concealment of a body, moving or destroying a body, and taking a minor for sexual purposes.
Investigations were reportedly aided by CCTV footage showing Carman entering a condominium with the girl and later leaving alone, carrying a suitcase, which authorities believe contained her body. Following the review of the footage, police issued an arrest warrant and detained Carman at the airport.
The family of the victim expressed devastation at the loss, underscoring the tragic nature of the case. Authorities continue their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the death.
